It had been over a decade and a half since Hayim Mizrachi, Jarrad Katz and Dori Koren were fraternity brothers at the University of Las Vegas Nevada. Hayim and Jarrad have successful careers in commercial real estate together, while Dori worked his way up the ranks at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, where he serves as a lieutenant today.

Missing the camaraderie that the three enjoyed during their college years, they decided to take a break from their routine, day-to-day lives to celebrate their friendship and success by having a monthly dinner gathering at a different steakhouse throughout Las Vegas. Little did they know that their love of whiskey, wine and steak would lead them to becoming amateur food critics, and that their reviews would be chronicled on their own website, OverRye.com.
Each of them brings along a different guest to every dinner. At first, it was to add color to the conversation, however, the site’s increasing popularity has made a dinner with the OverRye.com team somewhat of a hot ticket in town, which says a lot in a city where headliners include Gwen Stefani, Britney Spears and David Copperfield.
Restaurants have also paid attention to the group’s presence, and they themselves bear no bones of what their objective is when they walk through the doors of a steakhouse. Since their website has come to prominence among steak lovers in Las Vegas, today the trio and their group will receive a warm welcome from a restaurant’s maitre d’ and feel that they quite often get the establishment’s “A-Team” looking after them.
The three friends are very unique in their own, individual way, and they seem to make it work to keep the evening interesting with their conversations and banter. Dori looks the part of a stereotypical cop, mixed in with an air of Bobby DeNiro “don’t mess with me” attitude. He is an avid lover of scotch whiskey and always looks for caesar salad on a menu. Jarrad is a well-polished and well-groomed Zach Galifianakis with a touch of Ron White cynicism. He keeps the table in stitches with his one-liners and his go-to is onion soup. Hayim looks like a young Andy Garcia that opted for law school instead of Hollywood, blended with the lighthearted gentleness of Steve Martin in “Father of the Bride.” His go-to move appears to be blessing pork products that come his way as a way of respecting his religion, which appears to be “Jew-ish.”
A typical OverRye.com dinner.
Since their inaugural dinner, the trio has compiled a list of top five steakhouses and whiskey bars, along with a selection of top five brands of rye, bourbon and scotch whiskies. If you’re a visitor to the area, or even a local looking to experience some pretty amazing steakhouses, you can follow along in the adventures of Hayim, Jarrad and Dori on the Aliyah Media website, where we will feature videos of their upcoming dinners. And, of course, you can always visit www.OverRye.com
